The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, USCIS, has introduced a revised application form I-485, to register Permanent Residency or adjust status. The revised form, effective today, August 25th, will replace the version introduced earlier this year.

The new form will be longer than the previous one, as it will provide detailed instructions relevant to applicants’ specific situations and how to properly complete, file and submit evidence. Some of the new provisions  to the form include a list of 27 immigration categories, which will enable applicants to identify the specific immigration categories they are applying under.

Applicants downloading the form are advised to check the bottom of the page of the forms, to ensure the date reflects the updated version 06/26/17 and not 01/17/17. According to the department of Homeland Security, the updated version will not affect the filing process or the location to submit the forms.

In the second quarter of this year, USCIS received over 176,000 applications nationwide, 134,000 of which were approved and slightly over 13,200 denied.
